FRANCE - The world's most famous art museum in Paris [The Louvre] is dedicating 4,600 square metres to display the art works of Islam which will include approximately 18,000 pieces. The new section will be housed in an undulating glass and steel structure in the courtyard of the museum, near the famous pyramid. The exhibition hall has been created by French architect Rudy Riciotti and Italian architect Mario Bellini and is designed to be filled with light and air which will pour through a network of two thousand bronze coloured steel triangles, which will evoke the latticework of Islamic architecture. L'Express reports that the new exhibition is due to open in September 2012. Among the works of art on display will be carpets and fabrics as well as ceramics and other objets d'art.
