NETHERLANDS - Art and the Bible is a site created and maintained by contentecontent.com, an internet publisher based in Amsterdam. They have collected pictures of hundreds of famous paintings and linked them to their corresponding Bible passage using the King James Version - the passage the artist may have read. In most cases, they also provided information on the paintings themselves. This work by Domenico Ghirlandaio (1449 – 1494) is linked to Matthew 2:11. Entitled, "The Adoration of the Magi" (1487) it was a hugely popular genre and subject in the early years of the Renaissance. These round paintings are called tondos, after the Italian word for circle. For more on this painting, visit: Art and the Bible.
