Muslim art on display at BYU through September

UTAH - Muslim art is on exhibit through September at Brigham Young University’s Museum of Art. "Beauty and Belief: Crossing Bridges With the Arts of Islamic Culture" features more than 250 pieces from collections in the United States, Europe, Africa, India and the Middle East. Objects range from functional items, such as bowls, to the sacred, including handmade pages from the Quran. There also is a virtual interactive display so viewers can get even closer to some items. The free exhibit’s goal is to foster understanding between the Western world and Islamic culture through artwork. "Beauty and Belief" opened Feb. 24 and takes up the museum’s main floor. The exhibition will run through Sept. 29. After BYU, the exhibit will move to the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Newark (N.J.) Museum and the Portland (Ore.) Art Museum. [link]
